Normandy School District Selects District for Transportation

Normandy School District Superintendent Dr. Ty McNichols announced today that Normandy would provide transportation to the Francis Howell School District for students who wish to transfer out of the district based on a recent Missouri Supreme Court ruling. According to state law, unaccredited districts must cover the transportation costs for students to one accredited district in the same or an adjoining county. Francis Howell School District is located in St. Charles County. Dr. McNichols said there were several factors that led to the district’s decision:

  •  Francis Howell School District is in the same geographic corridor as Normandy School District, which makes coordinating transportation more effective.
  •  The expenditures per student for the two districts are similar.
  •  The Department of Elementary and Secondary Education has recognized Francis Howell School District with numerous awards for quality education programs including the Distinction in Performance Award.
  •  Francis Howell School District uses Special School District services at a rate almost identical to those used by Normandy School District.
  •  Normandy School District students will be able to learn with a more diverse group of students and staff.
  •  Francis Howell School District is large enough to be able to accommodate an influx of students who may transfer from Normandy School District.

“While we in the Normandy School District continue to work to improve the educational program and regain accreditation, I am confident that Francis Howell School District staff will work closely with our students who decide to transfer there to ensure they succeed,” noted Dr. McNichols.
